So, does your trail camera experience specific problems? I’ll be showing you the different issues a trail camera may have and how to resolve them:
1. In the Display: LCD Goes Out
One of the main problems hunters face with trail cameras is the LCD display. Sometimes, the LCD would go completely off, stays blurred, or it won’t be able to get the light. Follow these steps if ever this happens:
- The memory card may have locked the entire trail camera, resulting in the display going all black. Reset the camera and format the memory card, removing it and putting the card back in again.
- Check the camera’s battery and if there’s still enough charge in it. When you find that the battery’s empty, then the camera would turn on but have no display at all. If that’s the case, charge or replace the battery.
2. Saving Photos: SD Card Error
Another very frustrating problem hunters face isn’t just the display or photo quality, but the memory! If ever you’ve saved photos or have recorded footage of the area but find out it wasn’t saved, don’t worry. Here are some solutions to its memory problems:
- Check the SD card and see if it still has enough space for photos and videos. If ever there isn’t, then you’ll need to delete or format the memory card to accommodate the media.
- Check the SD card and see if it’s compatible with your trail camera and if it’s attached to the slot properly.
3. Lighting In Photos: Black Night
The quality of the photos can end up either being too dark or too bright, ruining the entire shot from lighting. If ever your photos come up too bright or dark, here’s the top solution:
- Check out the camera’s exposure scale, which would have positive and negative on either side. You’ll be able to see the correct exposure position from the marker found on the scale.
- Make sure that the marker is on the positive sign, or in the middle. This ensures that the photo gets enough lighting, but not too much to make it overly bright.
- The problem might also be the glare of the sun, which can overheat the camera and shit it off. Avoid placing it under direct sunlight to prevent the shots from being against the light and from overheating.
4. The Display Blinking
Sometimes, the LCD display of your trail camera begins to blink. Not only is it irritating, but it can get worrisome if the problem persists.
However, the simple solution is to open the memory card slot, take out the memory card, and format it. If ever the display still continues to blink, then it’s best to get a new SD card.
5. Does the Problem Still Exist?
If ever you’ve tried all these steps but to no avail, then there might be problems inside your trail camera. Chances are, your trail camera is defected and needs repair or servicing.
- If you still have a warranty for the trail camera, then bring it to your nearest company service center. They will be able to fix or replace the unit for free.
- For those who don’t have a warranty for it anymore, then make sure you find a reputable servicing center or repairman who can do the job.
- Sometimes, the repair can cost as much as a new trail camera! If this happens, then it’s best to simply replace the camera with a new one with a good warranty.

My camera suddenly has started capturing some images but not others. For example it captured 4 videos last night, I had regularly been getting 25 or more every night.
Even though the camera had not been touched the camera didn’t capture a single video of the 8 deer that spent 15mins out there this morning that I could see from the window. Any reason it would capture some but not others?

Hi Kyra, this may be a problem in the camera’s internal parts. It might have loosened, causing clicking noises. It’s best to take it to a repair store or use your camera warranty to have it repaired or parts replaced.
Can’t get old pictures to delete. I’ve reset the camera several times. Without a card reader, is there any way to get rid of pictures?

You will need a card reader to connect your camera’s memory card to your PC to delete any existing photos. Have you tried reformatting your memory card from the camera’s settings?
I have a WGI Model Model M16i31AC2-7 infrared digital scouting camera that I have set for night time videos. I started having problems with it taking videos only during daytime. It was replaced under warranty and worked fine for about 2 weeks and then it started taking daytime videos only again. I have replaced the batteries with lithiums and also installed a brand new Fat32 sd card which I have formatted several times. Still the same problem. Any suggestions?

How do you reset the camera and its memory. This model is not adjustable. We can not even change the time lapse of the pictures or darkness and light.
Hi Brent, hmm, this may be an issue your camera manufacturer will be able to solve. Do you have an instruction manual? If not, what is the brand of your camera? You may also contact customer service for specific directions.
When trying to view videos the screen is 3way split and not showing continuous play. The bottom is completely distorted and the top 2 start then stop.
Hi James, this may be trouble with the camera that your manufacturer needs to fix, as this is beyond just a restart. Please have it checked.
I have 5 lightsout cameras that I had out last hunting season and all of them worked , when I pulled them out last season I took all the batteries out and wiped them down, got them out, put new batteries in, none of the 5 will turn on except 1, it will turn on and then shut off and will not turn back on. I’m blown away to think that all 5 of them could go bad at the same time. Could you please give me some advice as I would hate to throw them all away (very disappointed)
Hi Kurt, try to replace the batteries with a new brand, it may be a battery issue.

Batteries in my trail camera are being drained very quickly and
and camera is only taking a few pictures as a result
Hi Joyce,
There are several possible reasons why the batteries in your trail camera may be draining quickly and the camera is only taking a few pictures as a result. Here are some suggestions on what you can do:
Check the battery type: Make sure you are using the right type of batteries for your trail camera. Lithium or alkaline batteries are usually the best options for trail cameras. Avoid using rechargeable batteries or cheap brands, as they may not provide enough power to the camera.
Check the battery contacts: Make sure the battery contacts in your trail camera are clean and free from dirt, debris or corrosion. Use a cotton swab or a soft cloth to clean the contacts if needed.
Check the camera settings: Your camera settings can also affect the battery life. Check the camera manual for guidance on how to optimize the settings to conserve battery life, such as reducing the flash range or shortening the picture interval.
Check for firmware updates: Sometimes firmware updates can improve the battery life of your camera. Check the manufacturer’s website for any updates available for your model.
Check for faulty equipment: If you have tried all the above steps and your camera still drains the batteries quickly, there may be an issue with the camera itself. Contact the manufacturer or a professional repair service for assistance.
By following these steps, you may be able to identify and solve the problem of your trail camera’s battery draining quickly and the camera only taking a few pictures.
Goodluck!
My camera says lock on the top by the location spot and I don’t know how to get it unlocked I never knew that there was a way to lock it.
I have just bought a lights out switch model and the lcd display is not showing anything, with the card out it says no SD clearly, but as soon as I put it in display is blank. Could it be because I have the wrong SD? I am using a 128gb but I really didn’t think the storage size would affect the display. Plz help this thing is about to become a target if it don’t work
Hi Bolt,
If your trail camera’s LCD display is not showing anything, it could be due to a few reasons, including the SD card. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:
1. Make sure your trail camera is compatible with the 128GB SD card you are using. Some cameras may not support larger capacity cards, or they may require a specific type or brand of card.
2. Try formatting the SD card in your computer or in the camera itself. Formatting the card can sometimes resolve issues with compatibility or corrupted files.
3. Make sure the camera settings are correct and that the LCD display is not turned off in the settings.
4. If you have another SD card available, try using that in the camera to see if the display works. If the display works with a different card, the issue may be with the original SD card.
5. If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact the manufacturer’s customer support for further assistance. They may be able to provide additional troubleshooting steps or repair services if needed.
Goodluck
I cannot get my camera to come on? The red power light will not light up and nothing appears on the lcd screen was working fine and I tried to turn it off then remove card but wouldn’t turn off. Removed card anyhow and tried to power down again the red light was still on when I walked away came back couple days later light was off , changed batteries and now won’t power up??
Hi David,
If your camera is not turning on and you have already changed the batteries, here are some additional steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:
-Make sure the batteries are inserted correctly and the positive and negative terminals are aligned with the contacts in the camera.
-Look for a reset button or switch on the camera and try pressing it to reset the camera. If your camera does not have a reset button, remove the batteries and leave them out for a few minutes before reinserting them and trying again.
-Try removing the SD card and see if the camera turns on without it. If the camera turns on, the SD card may be causing the issue. Try formatting the SD card or using a different card to see if it resolves the issue.
-If none of the above steps work, contact the manufacturer’s customer support for further assistance. They may be able to provide additional troubleshooting steps or repair services if needed.
Have a good day
